What You Should Know Before Buying Computer

Computer is almost basic need of every person now. The way the technology is advancing and the way we need most effective and efficient way of work and knowledge, computer is our best companion. All of our problems are being solved by an electronic box called computer. Well, computer has so many uses and we really cannot ignore even a single one. Accounts, Medical, Engineering and so many other departments are dependents of computer now.

Processor: It is the brain of the computer, speed of a computer primarily depends on the processor, so select best processor. Right now market is full of different kind of processors. There are two main processor manufacturers

1. Intel
2.  AMD (Advance Micro Devices)

Intel is leading the market where as AMD is really competing. The processor like core2duo, i3, i5 and i7 are excellent workouts by Intel. I would prefer you to get one of these processors. The rise is price is respectively as i7 is most expensive and efficient processor than all others. But if you need a general purpose computer then select either i3 or core2duo. These are not only efficient also have reasonable prices.

Motherboard: It is basically a circuit board which provides all accessories to be attached with it. It has so many microcontrollers on it. Good motherboards are also the reason of slight speedy processing. Its better to select Intel motherboard because Intel has configured their motherboards for maximum processor performance. There are so many manufacturers which are providing motherboards like ASUS, MSI etc

RAM: Random Access Memory is one of the key factors which increase the speed of computer. You must have compatible RAM as according to Motherboard. 2 GB RAM is recommended for Win7 and Windows Vista where as for Win XP 1 GB is enough. More ram will let you run your computer programs in more efficiency and with smoothness. If we have low ram then our computer stores that part of information on hard drive in Virtual memory which is extremely slow than RAM.

Hard Disk: Hard Drive should be fast, fast file access and fast data moving is really necessary when you need your computer to run smoothly. Right now market is full of two types of hard drives

1. Parallel ATA (PATA)
2. Serial ATA (SATA)

PATA has low rate of transfer where as SATA has more than 400 MB per Second transfer rate.

One thing more on which speed of hard drive depends is RPM (Rotation per Minute), normally its 7200 rpm hard drives available in market for general uses. Otherwise for server usage more than 20,000 rpm hard drives are also available.

DVD/CD Rom: DVD or CD ROMs should be fast. The speed are represented as 56x, 52x, 48x, 24x etc. Best is 52x till now. 56x was also not bad but the faults with those CD Rom was that they broke the CD.

DVD Rom and Writers are best choices to get. So prefer DVD ROM with 22x speed which is best in speed, data transfer rate is high and more you can watch DVDs with smoothness.

Power Supply: Power Supplies should be considered first to check as all the computer components are dependent of power. Prefer the good and expensive power supplies like branded supplies. They not only provide the power also stabilize the power in either form increased or decreased.

In case you are purchasing used computer then never purchase used hard drive. Always get a new hard drive with old computer. The reason is, old or used hard drives are weak and vulnerable where as new hard drives have not only best performance also got the 10 month warranty. So never take risk on hard drives. Even you should not get used DVD ROMs because after several time usage of DVD/CD Lens we are not sure whether this lens going to work more than 3 months or not, so leave the crap and prefer new one.
